According to the National Association of Home Builders, homes of the future will have high ceilings and lots of natural light.
One-level ranch type houses will continue to be popular.
Entry ways will be wider – increased by about 6 inches.
Gone will be the living room, which will be replaced with a den or library.
Floor coverings, pillars and ceiling panels will define open floor plans.
Although laminate flooring has been very popular, it’s said to be on its way out because of the noise.
Houses will have bigger garages with more front-to-back parking.
There will be more focus on outdoor spaces like patios, yards, outdoor kitchens and fireplaces.
Master bedrooms will have dual closets with built-in organizers.
Shower stalls will be bigger and have multiple shower heads.
Houses will have energy efficient windows and appliances to keep home energy costs down.
And many new homes will have exercise workout rooms for more convenience.
