It appears as if emergency food and shelter programs are going to suffer this year due to reductions on the U.S. budget. Federal funds may not be available this year, the United Way has announced.
The Sun Chronicle noted that Bristol County has been awarded the funds to suppletment the programs under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program. In 2010, the county received $459,144 which was disbursed to 29 agencies.
The budget is still pending approval and may not be announced for many weeks. In the meantime, the Bristol County Food and Shelter Board has been asked to take applications for the distribution of any funds in case any money should become available.
A local board will determine how the funds awarded to Bristol County will be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local groups.
Completed applications are due on March 25th at noon. Completed applications should be submitted to:
United Way of GNB Hunger Commission
105 Williams St
New Bedford, MA 02740
The four major cities in Bristol County are:
· Fall River
· New Bedford
Let’s all try to help the emergency food and shelter programs stay afloat during this time of need.
